Taylor Shoecraft's Summer at Summit!
Describe your experience at Summit with one word.
"Refining."
What surprised you most about working at Summit?
"What surprised me most was that the challenging projects - the ones I struggled through and that left me mentally exhausted - were the ones that contributed the most to my growth. They were absolutely essential to my development."
What are the differences between your 1L and 2L internships at Summit?
"This summer, I came in knowing that when partners and staff say they are willing to help, they genuinely mean it. Last summer, I initially struggled to trust that they truly meant it, but after receiving tremendous support, patience, and guidance in areas where I was unsure."
What advice would you have given yourself at the beginning of your internship with Summit?
"I would remind myself of the importance of self-advocacy as a foundation for becoming an effective advocate for my clients."
How will your time at Summit inform and shape your career trajectory?
"Summit Law Group was my first legal job, where I learned to take depositions, answer interrogatories, and write legal memos and trial briefs. But more importantly, my time at Summit emphasized the value of being an attorney who is kind, possess character, and demonstrates self-awareness - qualities that were consistently modeled by the partners I worked with over the past year. These are qualities I will strive to emulate as I advance in my legal career."
