Nine Summit Attorneys Named 2010 “Super Lawyers”
The Washington Law & Politics magazine has chosen nine Summit Law Group members as 2010 Super Lawyers. The Summit lawyers recognized are: John Chun (labor and employment), Mike Erickson (corporate), Otto Klein (labor and employment), Phil McCune (litigation), Polly McNeill (administrative law), Ralph Palumbo (litigation), Bruce Schroeder (labor and employment)¸ Mike Thorp (environmental), and Mark Worthington (corporate). In addition, Ralph Palumbo was named one of the top 100 lawyers, in total points, in the 2010 nomination, research, and blue ribbon review process.

Summit Succeeds in Obtaining Protection for Victim of Domestic Violence
The Department of Homeland Security has approved Summit lawyer Maureen Mitchell’s Application for Permission to Enter as a Nonimmigrant on behalf of a pro bono client from Mexico who is a victim of domestic violence.

Summit Selected as Preferred Law Firm

Law 100 firms, in a process that included three substantive stages of inquiry. Richard Wood Earns Certified Legal Manager Designation
Summit is proud to congratulate its Accounting Manager Richard Wood for being accredited as a Certified Legal Manager. CLM certification is a significant achievement, requiring professional initiative and dedication. The designation requires strict work experience and continuing professional education requirements, as well as a grueling and comprehensive examination. Of the almost 11,000 members of the Association of Legal Administrators, only about 400 have successfully completed this rigorous certification process. Richard is one of only nine CLMs in Seattle.

Richard Mitchell Appointed to the Legal Foundation of Washington Board
The Washington Supreme Court appointed Summit member Richard Mitchell to the Legal Foundation of Washington’s Board of Trustees. His term is effective January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2011. The Legal Foundation of Washington is a not-for-profit organization created at the direction of the Washington Supreme Court to administer the Interest on Lawyer's Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program in Washington State. Its mission is to provide money and other resources to civil legal aid programs to assist low-income people throughout Washington State.

Summit Prevails in Employment Discrimination Lawsuit
Summit Law Group client Jefferson Transit Authority was sued by an employee transit operator, who claimed disability discrimination, retaliation, violation of civil rights, and conspiracy to interfere with his rights. The lawsuit was brought in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. The Court granted Jefferson Transit’s motion for summary judgment and dismissed all of the claims with prejudice. Summit’s team in the litigation included John Chun, Maureen Mitchell, and Sofia Mabee.

The Washington State Bar Association has announced that Richard Mitchell will be awarded the 2009 WSBA Board of Governors’ Award for Professionalism. This award recognizes a member of the Bar “who exemplifies the spirit of professionalism in the practice of law.” The award will be presented at the WSBA’s Annual Awards Dinner on September 24, 2009.
